Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reportedly resigned from his position. According to DailyTrust, he tendered his resignation on Sunday night, July 16.
The report states that Adamu, who became the national chairman after the party’s national convention in March 2022, sent his resignation letter to the Presidential Villa in Abuja before the return of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya.
Sources reveal that Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa State, sent the letter to the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, around 4 pm on Sunday. The letter was addressed to President Tinubu, but since the president was away in Kenya for the AU meeting, it was forwarded to his chief of staff.
A close source to Adamu confirmed his resignation, attributing it to a perceived conspiracy against him by individuals close to the president, aimed at embarrassing him during the party’s meetings scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The source, however, refuted claims that President Tinubu had requested Adamu’s resignation ahead of the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the party, which were initially planned for July 10 and 11 but later rescheduled for the aforementioned dates. These meetings are intended to address critical issues within the party and the ongoing crisis within the National Working Committee (NWC).
