Nigerian film industry veterans Richard Mofe-Damijo and Kunle Afolayan, alongside six other trailblazers, have been invited to join the Oscars Academy. In a statement on its website, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced that these individuals have become voting members of the prestigious organization as part of the class of 2023.
The Academy’s selection process is based on professional qualifications, with a strong emphasis on representation, inclusion, and equity. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang expressed their pride in welcoming these talented artists and professionals into the membership, acknowledging their significant contributions to the arts and sciences of motion pictures and their impact on movie enthusiasts worldwide.
