ABOUT
Founded in 1895 by British Colonist, the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club is the oldest sports club in Nigeria. It served as a sports arena and relaxation zone for the then colonial governors in the early 90s. Spanning a length of about 14000 sqm, the club is situated at the Tafawa Balewa Square, a very lively and serene part of Lagos. Lagos Lawn Tennis Club is a private club with lots of amazing features and events to keep members active and reborn in the game of Lawn Tennis.
The Lagos Lawn Tennis club has taken Lawn Tennis, a once ignored sport in Nigeria, to another level. Every year, the club hosts major tennis tournaments which draw sports lovers and athletes from different countries in the world, to either watch or participate in the games. The most reputable of these tournaments is the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship (GCLT) held yearly with several participants competing for a cash prize. In 2014, the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club hosted renowned Lawn Tennis Champions Serena Williams and Venus Williams among other popular athletes in one of its tournaments.

Lagos Lawn Tennis comprises nine tennis courts, a billiards section, squash and table tennis sections and so much more. It also features sports shops, a bar, and a nice outdoor environment for socializing with other members and their guests. To further enhance the efficiency of the club in managing athletes during sporting activities, there is a gym and mini-clinic with advanced resuscitation tools. However, the sports facilities can only be used by members and their guests. It is one of the social hot zones in Lagos as you generally see members use it as a rendezvous point for extra social activities.
