About the Show
Afrobeats music, also known as Afro-pop or Afro-fusion, is an umbrella term for popular music from Nigeria and other West African States. This fusion of sounds flowing out of genres such as highlife, jùjú music, and naija beats, among others, make up the ‘afrobeats’ family. The Naija Star Search is an afrobeats singing competition and talent hunt music reality that unearths some of the hidden musical prodigies the country has to offer.These talents will be battling the odds of breaking out of their shell to become the ’next rising star’ of afrobeats.

When you hear Afrobeats, what comes to mind? For us, it’s the Joy of seeing Africa setting standards on music mainstream across the globe. The history we have created as Africans, especially Kennis Music being one of the major pioneers of the evolution of Afrobeats, is truly priceless.
The history is not complete without mentioning some of our artistes that played prominent roles in achieving this great height. The likes of 2baba, Dbanj, JJC Skills, Sound Sultan and many others popularly known across the globe, who do not only print Afrobeats in gold in the hearts of many, both home and abroad, but also make Nigeria Proud.
This has also opened opportunities for Nigerian youths today doing really well in music, with the likes of Burna Boy who is not just nominated for Grammy but brings it home to us. This joy for us transcends just being part of history but also being able to give platforms to Nigerian youths with great talent to showcase themselves.
Just as it’s said, the harvest is rich, the labourers are few. There are many gifted talents out there who do not have a platform to achieve stardom or even find producers who believe in their dreams. Kenny Ogungbe, in partnership with StarTimes, believes in you.
Thus, this July, StarTimes is introducing Naija Star Search. Naija Star Search is a reality show aimed at discovering the next generation of afrobeats superstars
Kenny Ogungbe, Iyanya, ID Cabasa and VJ Adams are inviting you for an audition to stand the chance to be the next superstar.
About the Show
NAIJA STAR SEARCH reality show will run for 13 weeks, to be aired weekly with snippets/highlights aired daily. The show will selectively feature talented young Nigerian artistes, between the age of 18 and 35, aspiring to become stars. Whilst in the competition, the selected contestants will have a one-on-one mentorship class with the judges who are top music executives. During the show, the contestants will perform covers of popular Nigerian afrobeats artistes that match their vocals, as well as their original genre of afrobeat songs that blend with the theme of the selected episode of the week.
PRICE: The winner of the season one, stand a chance to win the grand prize of N10 million naira.
