In a stroke of luck, a fortunate individual has become $1.08 billion richer by winning Wednesday’s third-highest jackpot in America’s history.
The Powerball jackpot had an estimated cash value of $558.1 million.
The winning combination of numbers was 7, 13, 10, 24, and 11, with the Powerball number being 24. Additionally, the Power Play multiplier for the jackpot was 2X.
“This has turned into a historic jackpot run; this is only the third time in Powerball’s 31-year history that a jackpot has reached the billion-dollar threshold,” Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director, said in a Powerball news release.
Three fortunate players have won a $2 million prize each by matching five white balls along with the Power Play. Additionally, 36 players secured a $1 million prize each for matching five white balls.
Throughout this year, several other significant Powerball jackpots have been won, including a $754.6 million jackpot in Washington on January 5, a $162.6 million jackpot in Virginia on March 4, and a $252.6 million jackpot in Ohio on April 19.
In terms of size, only two previous Powerball jackpots have surpassed the current one. The largest-ever grand prize was awarded in 2022 when the jackpot reached a staggering $2.04 billion. The second-largest jackpot of $1.586 billion was won in 2016, as reported by the lottery.
