Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, recently shared his dream music collaboration during an interview with Billboard News. The ‘Sungba’ artist expressed his desire to work with the billionaire American rapper, Kanye West.
Asake emphasized the importance of having a personal connection with the artists he collaborates with. He stated, “For me, I need to like the person before I can make music with you. I need to be comfortable with you, not just because of the music alone. I’m not saying I can’t collaborate with other artists, but I value genuine energy and a strong connection. If there’s a mutual liking beyond the music, that’s great. But I must connect with your music and genuinely like the person I want to collaborate with; it’s essential for a seamless partnership. There must be synergy.”
He further expressed his long-standing desire to work with Kanye West, hoping that the opportunity might come to fruition in the future.
Regarding the global expansion of the afrobeats genre, Asake shared his thoughts, saying, “It’s like watching your child grow. You feel a sense of pride when something you’re associated with is thriving. In a few years, afrobeats will likely achieve even greater prominence on the global stage.”
