“Battle on Buka Street” is a 2022 Nigerian comedy drama film directed by Funke Akindele and Tobi Makinde. The film is a joint production between Funke Ayotunde Akindele Network (FAAN) and FilmOne Studios. It had its theatrical release on 16th December 2022 and received extremely positive reviews from critics, becoming a huge box office success.
The plot centers around a battle between two women who confront each other in a food challenge to win the prestigious title of ‘King of Buka Street,’ which is awarded to the best local food seller in the region.

The film marked Funke Akindele’s third cinematic directorial venture after “Your Excellency” and “Omo Ghetto: The Saga.” Additionally, it was possibly her final film venture, as she expressed her intention to join politics and run for office.
In terms of box office performance, “Battle on Buka Street” became the second highest-grossing Nigerian film of 2022, behind “Brotherhood,” earning about ₦200,087,222 at the box office. It surpassed “Avatar: The Way of Water” as the highest-grossing film in Nigeria during the Christmas weekend, grossing almost ₦50 million. The film also earned ₦26 million on 25th December 2022, coinciding with Christmas, making it the highest-grossing Nigerian film on a single day in 2022. Its theatrical run came to an end on 13th April 2023, after 17 weeks at the box office, with a total gross box office of ₦668,423,056, making it the highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time, displacing “Omo Ghetto: The Saga.”
At the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in 2023, “Battle on Buka Street” received multiple nominations in various categories, recognizing the talents involved in the film’s production.
