Victor Osimhen, the talented striker for the Nigerian national team and Napoli, has been honored with the Best African International award at the 5th edition of the Ghana Football Awards. The prestigious accolade was presented to Osimhen during the awards ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Center on Sunday.
Despite tough competition from renowned players such as Mohamed Salah of Egypt and Liverpool, as well as Riyad Mahrez from Manchester City, Osimhen emerged as the deserving winner. His remarkable performances on the field contributed significantly to Napoli’s triumphant 2022/23 Serie A campaign, securing their first league title since the 1989-1990 season. Osimhen’s exceptional goal-scoring prowess, with 26 goals in the Italian topflight, made history as he became the first African player to achieve this remarkable feat.
In addition to the Best African International award, Osimhen was also recognized as the Serie A Best Striker for his outstanding contributions throughout the season. With these accolades, Osimhen stands as a strong contender for the highly anticipated African Player of the Year award, solidifying his position as one of Africa’s most exceptional football talents.
