Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has been crowned the 2024 CAF African Footballer of the Year. The announcement was made during a grand ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday night.
At just 27 years old, Lookman has delivered a phenomenal season for both Atalanta and the Nigerian national team, earning him this prestigious accolade. His stellar performances were pivotal in Atalanta’s historic Europa League triumph, where he scored a hat-trick in the final to secure the club’s first-ever European trophy and their second major title.
On the international stage, Lookman shone brightly during Nigeria’s impressive run to the final of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). His three crucial goals were instrumental in Nigeria’s journey, even though they narrowly lost to Côte d’Ivoire in the final.
For Atalanta, Lookman had an outstanding 2023–24 season, recording 17 goals and 10 assists across 45 appearances. His brilliance continues into the current season, with 11 goals in 19 matches, helping Atalanta lead Serie A by two points over Napoli.
