Awoniyi finds himself in esteemed company, as he is one of six players shortlisted for this prestigious individual award. The other nominees include Jarod Bowen from West Ham, James Maddison of Tottenham Hotspur, Rodri representing Manchester City, Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford, and Kaoru Mitoma from Brighton and Hove Albion.
Awoniyi’s impressive August performance saw him scoring in each of Nottingham Forest’s first three matches, continuing a remarkable streak that now spans seven consecutive Premier League matches. This achievement places him in an elite club, as only Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor have previously managed to score in seven consecutive matches among African players.
Football fans have the opportunity to cast their votes for their favorite player until 12:00 BST on Monday, September 11, using the EA SPORTS website. The final outcome will be determined by combining the public votes with those of a panel of football experts. The winner will be officially announced next week.
Currently, Awoniyi is with the Super Eagles in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, preparing for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against São Tomé and Principe, scheduled for Sunday.
